LaSalle residents deserve responsible spending, reliable services and a clear plan to ease pressure on property taxes. As Mayor, I will work with Council, administration and the Police Services Board to advance these priorities during my first 100 days.
1. Review spending and pause discretionary projects
Within the first two weeks, I will bring forward a proposal to pause uncommitted, non-essential capital projects while we review their affordability, contractual obligations and long-term operating costs.
Essential infrastructure, public safety and necessary maintenance will remain priorities. Every discretionary project should demonstrate a clear community benefit and a sustainable funding plan.
2. Put reserves and debt under the microscope
I will request a public financial review identifying:
Which reserves are restricted, committed or available for other purposes.
Opportunities to improve investment returns while protecting principal and maintaining access to funds.
Whether eligible reserves could reduce borrowing costs, after accounting for repayment terms and future infrastructure needs.
The objective is to identify measurable savings and reduce future financial pressures.
3. Make growth contribute fairly
I will initiate a review of development charges, parkland contributions and the potential use of community benefits charges for eligible developments.
Within 100 days, residents should receive a recommendation outlining potential revenues, implementation requirements and implications for housing within reach. Growth-related infrastructure costs should be recovered fairly, within provincial rules.
4. Pursue shared-service savings while protecting frontline services
I will ask administration and the Police Services Board to explore partnerships with neighbouring municipalities for appropriate functions such as technology, procurement, training and administration.
Any proposal must demonstrate net savings, account for transition costs and maintain service quality. Protecting residents will remain the priority.
5. Begin diversifying our tax base
I will launch a focused effort to attract suitable commercial and industrial investment, identify barriers to business development and establish measurable economic development priorities.
Broadening the tax base takes time. The work must begin immediately, with clear accountability and protection for LaSalle’s neighbourhood character.
Accountability by Day 100
I will publish a progress report showing actions taken, verified savings, outstanding decisions and next steps.
My commitment is clear: control discretionary spending, protect essential services and build a stronger financial future for LaSalle.
